Blair Green undergoes successful surgery to repair ruptured Achilles
Following a terribly timed injury over the weekend, Blair Green is already on the path to recovery.
According to a Facebook post from Green’s mother Debbie, the Harlan County native and senior Kentucky Wildcat guard has successfully undergone surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles. Green will miss the entirety of the 2021-22 season for the UK Women’s Basketball Team. However, she will stick around Lexington and use her fifth year of college eligibility.
“Update- they are finishing up. Dr. Johnson said everything went great! Quick surgery…long recovery, but she is ready! thank you all so much!” Debbie Green wrote on Facebook. “

News first broke on Saturday afternoon that Blair Green had suffered a “significant lower-leg injury”, which was later discovered to be a ruptured Achilles. Kentucky was participating in a closed scrimmage against Eastern Kentucky and, according to Darrell Bird of CatsPause, Green heard a “pop” sound in her right foot after landing from a jump shot.
The timing of the injury couldn’t be worse for Green or her team. She was entering the new season as a starter and hopeful contributor for the No. 13 Wildcats. Green put on plenty of muscle over the offseason and said she was in the best shape of her life. Kentucky is currently just two days away from the team’s lone exhibition game of the season against Lee University on Nov. 4.
Green’s presence on the court will be greatly missed by her teammates, but now she’ll start her rehabilitation process and look to come back better than ever in 2022-23.
