Boogie Fland goes behind-the-scenes on commitment to Kentucky
How did Kentucky land 2024 five-star guard Boogie Fland, who chose the Wildcats over Indiana and Alabama back on October 20? You can relive commitment day with him thanks to a new behind-the-scenes documentary, which premiered this week on YouTube.
The Program NYC joined Fland from start to finish the day he became a Wildcat, picking him up at his house for school at 7:30 a.m. and sticking around through the end of his surprise commitment party that started at 9 p.m. — along with everything between.
You get to see the emotions and nerves leading up to his commitment ceremony, along with a special call from John Calipari ahead of the announcement, his future head coach congratulating him on his big day and expressing his excitement for Fland’s future in Lexington.
“I’m doing what I’m doing with this group and I’m having a vision of you doing this stuff. The way you get to spots, the way you’re getting to the rim, the way you’re making threes now,” Calipari said. “I’m telling you, with your range, I’m going to make you shoot outside the NBA three. I’ll tell you why: Boogie, it stretches out the court. They’ve got to play you.
“They’ll say, ‘That dude is letting him shoot out there?’ Yeah, you better go play him because — you don’t have to make them all, but if you go one for three or one for four, one went in and they’ll s*** themselves.”

Fland’s big-city New York personality is on full display, showing exactly why Calipari and his staff felt there was a clear fit in Lexington playing under the bright lights of Rupp Arena. There are also special appearances from Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony in the commitment video — one that made Mom cry — along with Immanuel Quickley showing up at the announcement to support a fellow Wildcat.
“If you look at Coach Cal’s resume and the pros they’re producing at my position, it’s only right that I go there,” Fland said. “He’s not promising me anything, he’s not saying I’m going to get this many shots or points, but he says I’m going to come in and work, compete and fight. I’m going to fight that battle every single day.”
If there is one thing you watch going into the weekend, make sure it’s this video:
The 6-foot-3 floor general is considered the No. 15 overall prospect and No. 1 point guard in the senior class according to the latest On3 Player Rankings. He is the second ’24 commit for Kentucky, joining four-star center Somto Cyril.
Fland is going to fit right in.
