Not long from now, we’ll know if Boogie Fland is a Wildcat or a Hoosier. If you believe the social media whispers, the Big Blue Nation could be in for some good news.

At 2:00 p.m. EST this afternoon, Fland, a five-star class of 2024 point guard, will announce his college decision at his high school. He’s down to a trio of options — Kentucky, Indiana, and Alabama — although the general consensus is that this one will come down to UK and IU. The 6-foot-3 Harlem (NY) Archbishop Stepinac product is considered the No. 20 overall high school senior and the top-ranked point guard in the country according to On3’s Industry Ranking.

The announcement ceremony will be streamed live through the link here.

Fland has taken official visits to all three of his finalists. He first went to Indiana in June before stopping at Kentucky and Alabama in September. His camp has done a good job of keeping this recruitment quiet, but word began to leak out regarding a potential frontrunner Thursday night. Most notably, the social media account Trilly Donovan, who has become well-known as a plugged-in recruiting insider behind a hidden persona, posted a not-so-subtle gif of DeMarcus “Boogie” Cousins that quickly got fans buzzing.

From there, other recruiting insiders began to follow suit. Fland has received a pro-Kentucky pick from 247Sports and two from Rivals since Trilly Donovan’s post. Trilly has an all-time prediction record 52-54 (96 percent) on his website “Burner Ball“.

Kentucky head coach John Calipari has gone all-in on Fland over the last month. After Fland took his official visit to UK in mid-September, he soon received two in-person visits from Calipari in less than a week’s time. Calipari then paid Fland another in-person visit in early October. Now coming down the home stretch, Kentucky is in good shape to land their second class of 2024 commit. The Wildcats also have four-star center Somto Cyril on board.

Earlier this month, Fland was one of 84 players to compete at the USA Basketball Junior National Team October Minicamp in Colorado Springs, CO. On3’s Jamie Shaw was in attendance where he watched Fland perform like one of the five best players at the event. Shaw tabbed Fland as the fourth-best player he saw, describing the point guard as “very consistent”, someone who took care of the ball well, and looked confident with his shot.

While there, Shaw spoke with Fland to talk about his top three. Fland explained his reasoning for having Kentucky among the bunch, pointing to Calipari’s ability to get his players into the NBA.

“Coach Cal has a really long track record with point guards,” he said. “Especially developing them. He has a track record of getting his guys to the next level and then getting them to their second contract. That’s really big with me and what stood out with them.”

Will it be big enough to land his commitment? We’ll find out this afternoon.
