Jamar “Boogie” Watson is poised for a standout senior season on Kentucky’s defense and today he earned some preseason recognition as one of the players to watch in 2020.

Watson was named to the watch list for the Chuck Bednarik Award, given annually to the best defensive player in college football.

The SEC’s leading returning sack leader is expected to have a standout senior season at linebacker for the Cats in 2020. In his three previous seasons, Watson totaled 18.5 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks. He had 11.5 of those tackles for loss and six of those sacks as a junior last fall.

For his career in checkerboard blue, Watson has played in 38 games with 18 starts, 67 total tackles, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and nine QB hurries since coming to Lexington as the 116th-ranked outside linebacker in the 2016 recruiting class.

His name will likely pop up on the preseason All-SEC list when it comes out soon.

Go Cats.
