Alabama gets buckets. They’re the highest-scoring team in America, averaging 90.6 points per game. Kentucky needed its offense to be firing on all cylinders to take down the Tide. The Cats were far from a V8 on Saturday at Coleman Coliseum.

Without Jaxson Robinson and Lamont Butler, Kentucky needed Koby Brea to shoot the ball on the road like he does at Rupp. The Dayton transfer did just that. He hit four three-pointers and scored 20 points, his best game of the year on the road. That wasn’t the problem.

Otega Oweh has been the most reliable scorer all season long. For the first time all year, he failed to reach double figures. He fouled out with 6:48 remaining after going 1-9 from the field to score 2 points.

Travis Perry picked up some of Oweh’s slack. The Kentucky native scored a career-high 12 points, with only one made three, and he set a career-high with four steals. The Cats had 13 steals, the second-most in a game this season.

Andrew Carr had the best plus-minus for the visiting team at +11, but foul trouble limited his minutes in the first half. His 17 points were the most since he tallied 19 at Gonzaga. He also grabbed six boards and had a pair of steals.

Digging deeper into the stat sheet, Kentucky gave away too many possessions and gave Alabama too many freebies from the charity stripe. The Wildcats had a 16.9% turnover percentage which led to 24 points for Alabama. Two players fouled out as Kentucky committed 22 personal fouls, sending Alabama to the line where they shot 21-25.

Alabama shot 52.5% from the field, scored 1.247 points per possession, Mark Sears dropped 30, and Aden Holloway sunk five three-pointers. The Crimson Tide had 23 points in transition compared to only six for the Wildcats.

Alabama swept Kentucky in the regular season for just the fourth time, most recently in 2020-21. According to Corey Price, they are the first team to score at least 96 points in both of their regular season meetings against Kentucky since LSU in 1969-1970.

One more stat you won’t see on the box score below: Kentucky was 6-17 on layups. Amari Williams‘ last one would’ve given the Cats a cover at -11.5 and sent the total over. That miss meant a lot more for some.
