BOX SCORE: Jaw-Dropping Ole Miss Offense Halts Kentucky Comeback
It’s a popular cinematic trope. The dumbfounded man can’t believe his eyes, so he rubs them with both hands before checking again, only to realize what he initially saw was true. You could use that trope while looking at the box score from Kentucky’s 98-84 loss to Ole Miss.
Ole Miss had 24 assists and only one turnover. What?
Amari Williams had a triple-double, just the fourth in Kentucky basketball history, and the Wildcats lost. How? Williams recorded an assist on Kentucky’s final possession to finish the night with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.
Want another bizarre stat? Ansley Almonor played 15 minutes and tallied zero statistics. The only other mark in his box score is a -20 in the plus-minus.
It was an unusual game with very few misses. In the first half, many of those Ole Miss makes were uncontested. When Kentucky was trying to mount a comeback in the second half, they could put 10 fingers in the opponent’s line of vision and it didn’t matter.

Ole Miss entered tonight’s contest averaging eight made three-pointers per game. They went 13-30 against Kentucky. The Rebels made nine in the first half and scored seven buckets at the rim. They were an efficiency machine, tallying 1.636 points per possession. Ole Miss led by 23 points at halftime. It was the third-largest halftime deficit to an SEC opponent in Kentucky basketball history.
Both teams were better than 1.2 points per possession. Both shot better than 50% from the field. It was the first time Ole Miss scored 90+ points against Kentucky since 1971.
Matthew Murrell was listed as questionable on Monday night. He has not been practicing with the team. He was 8-13 from the floor and made six three-pointers to score a game-high 24 points. Ole Miss had five players score in double-figures in the double-digit win over Kentucky. The Wildcats shot 63% from the field in the second half, but it was too little, too late.
