Brad Calipari joining Jerry Stackhouse's staff at Vanderbilt
Calipari is headed to Vanderbilt — not that Calipari, mind you.
Brad Calipari is joining Jerry Stackhouse’s staff at Vanderbilt as the Director of Player Development. Kyle Tucker shared the news on Twitter, which a quick check of Calipari’s social media accounts confirms. The son of John Calipari and former Kentucky walk-on most recently served as the special assistant to the head coach at LIU Brooklyn, a job he took when Derek Kellogg, who played for John Calipari at UMass, was still the head coach. Kellogg was fired in June 2022 and is now an assistant at Creighton.
Prior to LIU, Brad was a graduate assistant at Kentucky during the 2021-22 season. He was involved in all on-court activities with the Wildcats including practices, individual workouts, and film sessions. He also played an integral role with the staff in the development of practice plans and advanced scouting of upcoming opponents. Calipari played at Kentucky from 2017-19 before transferring to Detroit Mercy, where he saw action in 33 games over two seasons for the Titans. During the 2019-20 season, he averaged 6.1 points per game and connected on 51 3-pointers.
Now, Brad will work for Stackhouse, one of his father’s rivals in the SEC. He’s not the only member of his family on the Vandy payroll. Calipari’s eldest daughter Erin is the associate director of the Vanderbilt Center for Addiction Research and an associate professor at the university. The Caliparis purchased a house in Nashville in March 2022, which I’m sure will get even more use now that Brad’s in town.
Welcome back to the SEC, Brad.
