Understandably, Breathitt County got off to a slow start before going on to beat Magoffin County 43-0 in the Kroger KSR Game of the Week. A larger than expected crowd filled the Mike Holcomb Athletic Complex where emotions were high following the county’s recent flooding. The fact that the Bobcats were able to host the game was remarkable. I was in Jackson and the surrounding areas for two days. Crews worked round the clock to ensure the community had a place to gather and watch a football game.

Breathitt County dominated on the field as well as the stat sheet on Friday night. The Bobcats rolled up 402-total yards compared to 137 for the visiting Hornets. The Bobcat offensive line took the game over midway through the second quarter and paved the way for 227-rushing yards. The home team jumped out to a 36-0 advantage at halftime. Quarterback Tyler Bryant finished the contest 10/14 for 175-yards. Receiver Blake Ritchie led the way with four receptions for 93-yards.

Magoffin County running back Ben Lafferty led the visitors with 68-yards off 17 carries. He was joined by quarterback Aden Barnett in the Hornet offensive attack. The duo put up the majority of offensive production for the game.

The crowd was cheering and smiling. Given the tragic stories following the July flood, that was the best part of the night. The county came together for a high school football game. It was a beautiful site.

Kroger is a staple in your hometown community just like high school football. There’s nothing quite like Friday nights in the Bluegrass. We are honored to share this journey with Kroger and you for the third consecutive season. We hope you enjoyed this Kroger KSR Game of the Week and look forward to more stops in communities around the Commonwealth.
