ATHENS, GA — Georgia quarterback Brock Vandagriff (12) during the 51-13 win by the #1-ranked Georgia Bulldogs over the #20 Wildcats from the University of Kentucky, October 7, 2023 at Sanford Stadium.

Liam Coen has found his next quarterback. Former five-star recruit Brock Vandagriff announced he will be transferring from Georgia to Kentucky. A college graduate, he has two years of eligibility remaining.

Vandagriff entered the transfer portal on Monday after three seasons at Georgia. From Bogart, a small town located just 20 minutes from Athens, he was one of the most highly sought after recruits in the class of 2021.

“I really like what they do on offense and believe it will get me ready for the next level, which has always been the goal,” Vandagriff told On3’s Chad Simmons. “I really enjoyed talking ball with Coach [Liam] Coen and Coach [Mark] Stoops.”

He added, “I’m just really excited to go in there and get to work. Ready to meet my new teammates and learn this offense and be ready to roll this spring!”

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound quarterback originally committed to play for Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma, then flipped to his home state school just before signing day to play closer to home. He was the fourth-ranked quarterback and No. 22 overall prospect in the class of 2021, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.

Vandagriff is expected to be the third straight starting Kentucky quarterback from the transfer portal. He shares a lot of similarities with Will Levis. The Tennessee Titans quarterback could not win the starting job at a traditional powerhouse, but after getting a fresh start he was able to show his mobility and rocket arm to become a winner over two seasons at the University of Kentucky. Vandagriff can follow a similar path to success under Coen’s guidance in Lexington.

What Vandagriff Brings to Kentucky

Vandagriff has the impressive accolades and measureables, albeit with limited experience in college football games. To get a better idea of what he’s bringing to his next team, KSR spoke with recruiting expert Rusty Mansell. The Georgia insider believes Vandagriff has an incredibly high ceiling.

“The first thing you’ll notice if you see him in person, is he’s a big ass kid. He’s 6’3 legit. He’s got a freaking live arm. He is mobile. He is put together. What Brock Vandagriff lacks is why he is leaving Georgia and that is live snaps. Point blank,” Mansell said.

“I was told he had a very good conversation with Kirby Smart yesterday. I would imagine if you had Kirby Smart on here, he would tell you everything you want to hear about a kid like Brock Vandagriff, he just didn’t win the job. That’s just part of it. He’s going somewhere to get live snaps. That’s what he needs, live snaps.”

The addition of Vandagriff adds more runway to the high school quarterbacks Coen has recruited to Kentucky. Cutter Boley, a Lexington native arriving this spring, will have the luxury of learning Coen’s system for two seasons. Kentucky has also secured a quarterback commitment in the class of 2025, Stone Saunders.
