Brock Vandagriff's 'old school' nature is a welcomed attribute
The quarterback is asked to do a lot of things no matter the level of football. Heavy turnover can make transitions difficult. Georgia transfer Brock Vandagriff will be Kentucky’s third starting quarterback in three seasons. One year after Kentucky likely needed offensive leadership improvements, the Wildcats will ask Vandagriff to help impact that.
The redshirt junior’s playing style and approach could help fill that leadership void.
“I really feel this about Brock: He’s an old school throwback type player. He’s a guy that this is really important to him. From a leadership standpoint, that was always a starting point,” Kentucky offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan said at Kentucky’s kickoff luncheon on Monday. “Anytime you got a guy that’s coming in as a transfer, the expectations, how he can mesh with the rest of your team. I think he’s done a tremendous job.”
Brock Vandagriff is a former five-star recruit who was committed to play at Oklahoma for Lincoln Riley before ultimately flipping to Georgia. During his three years in Athens, the Bulldogs never lost a regular season game and won two national titles. Vandagriff will bring some of that winning standard to Lexington along with fellow transfer Jamon Dumas-Johnson. Kentucky is hopeful that the new starting quarterback can rally the entire offense and become a true team leader as the program breaks in another offensive coordinator.

There is no denying the raw talent and potential.
“He’s a player that’s got a really nice skill set,” said Hamdan. “Can run it, can throw it. We’re certainly excited about him continuing to take the next step.”
