Georgia Players On Brock Vandagriff

Georgia will make another trip to Lexington in Week 3 to face Kentucky at Kroger Field. The Bulldogs and Wildcats will lock horns in what will be one of the most physical games in the SEC once again. But the 78th all-time meeting between these two programs will have a new twist in 2024.

Former Georgia players Brock Vandagriff and Jamon Dumas-Johnson will be suiting up for Kentucky to face their former teammates on Sept. 14. Some of Kirby Smart‘s defensive players are excited about their opportunity to face their former teammate in live 11-on-11 football.

“It’s gonna be fun, for sure. I was doing a little thing Friday for Rhoback, and I was at Brock’s old school, so I sent him a video, and I was just messing with him,” Georgia star safety Malaki Starks told KSR at SEC Media Days. “It’s going to be special, for sure. I’m excited that they’re both going to get their shot to do what they can do and be what they can be.”

“It’s going to be exciting. I really can’t wait to play those guys, especially Brock. I used to talk to those guys. I see them every day at practice and around the facility. I had a relationship with those guys,” Georgia EDGE Mykel Williams told KSR. “It’s going to be interesting to see them on the field.”

Interesting to say the least. Playing quarterback at Georgia, Brock Vandagriff was never full contact in team periods at practice in Athens. The Georgia defense will get the opportunity to hit the former five-star quarterback for the first time ever in two months. When asked about the opportunity, Starks unleashed a huge laugh. The collision might not be a one-way fight.

“Brock’s not a slider,” said Starks.

New Kentucky offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan has gone on record to acknowledge the QB run package will be utilized this season. The addition of Rutgers transfer Gavin Wimsatt also tells us that using the QB in the designed run game will be a big part of this offense. When facing Georgia, Vandagriff will meet some former teammates head-on.

“I’m going to get a hit or two,” Starks said.
