Former five-star recruit Brock Vandagriff has played three full years of college football without making a collegiate start. That will finally change in year four when the Georgia transfer opens the 2024 season as Kentucky’s QB1.

There are high expectations for the redshirt junior who played only 76 offensive snaps during his three-year stint in Athens. Brock Vandagriff and the rest of the Kentucky offense are ready for the game to fget here finally, but he did admit there would be some emotions when he took the field with his new Kentucky teammates.

“I always kind of get pretty emotional just walking out in the stadium whether I’m the third string guy, fourth string guy, second, first, doesn’t even matter. I think it’s just kind of a testament to I just love ball and walking out there probably getting a little teary-eyed and stuff,” Kentucky’s starting quarterback told the media on Wednesday. “That’s what it’s all about. Obviously, going to be some nerves, and that means you care at the end of the day. We’re looking forward to that, and that’s what you do it for.”

The week has been a change of pace for Brock Vandagriff after spending three years in Kirby Smart‘s system. At Kentucky, Mark Stoops handles game prep a little differently, but football is football. Vandagriff believes that “game week in the SEC is pretty intense wherever you’re at” but believes he has found a rhythm.

Now it’s time to go play a game. Brock Vandagriff believes “luck favors those who are prepared” and states that he is putting excellent preparation in this week to make Saturday easier. But at the end of the day, this is a game, and it’s a game that Vandagriff loves. Kentucky’s new quarterback will have his adrenaline pumping throughout the weekend.

“I love football, and I’m ready to play. It’s kind of bad I don’t even really tell the coaches, but I will not sleep the night before at all. Just so jacked up,” said Vandagriff. “The same thing before I go hunting — I love it.”
