Former Miss Basketball Brooklynn Miles transfers from Tennessee to Kentucky
The Kentucky women’s basketball program is bringing back one of the Commonwealth’s finest. After spending two years on Rocky Top, Frankfort native Brooklynn Miles announced she is transferring from Tennessee to Kentucky.
The 5-foot-4 point guard was a bonafide star for Franklin County High School. As a senior she averaged 15.8 points, 5.4 assists and 3.3 steals per game for the Flyers, earning Miss Kentucky Basketball honors in 2021. In five years she helped Franklin County win four Region 11 titles. Miles finished her career with 2,278 points (14.0 ppg.), 624 assists (3.8 apg.), 477 rebounds (2.9 rpg.) and 451 steals (2.8 spg.) while shooting 44.9 percent from the field.
Brooklynn Miles committed to Tennessee the summer ahead of her Miss Basketball campaign, choosing the Vols over Kentucky, Miami, NC State and Purdue. At the time Kyra Elzy was an assistant coach, stepping in for Matthew Mitchell a few months later in December of 2020.
During her two seasons in Knoxville, Brooklynn Miles struggled to produce at a high level. She played 20 minutes per game as a freshman, averaging just over 2 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists per game. Those minutes slowly slipped away, thanks to issues off the court. She was suspended one game after receiving a misdemeanor charge of driving while impaired. The following year she appeared in just 23 contests for the Lady Vols.

It feels like Kyra Elzy’s program is much further removed than 14 months from an SEC Tournament Title. A year after shocking South Carolina, the Kentucky women’s basketball team only won two regular season SEC games in 2022-23. Three players expected to star for the Wildcats next season — Jada Walker, Kennedy Cambridge and Tionna Herron — entered the transfer portal this offseason.
It’s obvious from the outside looking in that optimism is not high around the program. The addition of Brooklynn Miles may stop the bleeding. After two tough years at Tennessee, this Kentucky homecoming could be just what both parties need, a fresh start.
