He may wear a double-zero, but Otega Oweh did not reach this point alone. Kentucky’s leading scorer credits his family for taking his game to new heights in the NCAA Tournament.

Oweh had 20 points, eight rebounds, and six assists in the opening round win over Troy. He followed that up with 15 points and four rebounds against Illinois. He believes that he plays better when his family is there to watch him play.

“Whenever we’re at any game, he always knows where we are. It’s not by accident. It’s by design,” said his mother, Tania. “He knows that he has that support behind him and I think that’s the wind beneath his wings.”

They can’t make it to every game because Otega is not the only athlete in his family. Odafe Oweh stars for the Baltimore Ravens defense. His other brother, Kaylen, and sister Natasha are also high-level athletes.

“We’re definitely a tight-knit group. My brothers and my sister were my role models. I’m the youngest and I’ve seen what they’ve had to go through. It just inspires me to keep on going.”

Odafe Credits Otega for Being the Best Oweh

That March Madness Confidential tugged at heartstrings. It was much more upbeat when Odafe and Otega joined CBS Sports HQ. Before they started sharing stories, the NFL edge shared that his Raven teammates are well-aware of Otega’s success at Kentucky.

“If anyone is remotely close to me, I’m always talking about him. I’ve been talking about him the whole year, even when we were playing,” Odafe said. “Just to grow up in the same house and understand how much each one of us want it, it’s crazy. I’m here (in the NFL). Otega’s going to be there in a few years, whenever he decides to make that decision. I’m just so proud to see him ball and see how far he can take it.”

The host asked the brothers to share which one is the better athlete. Naturally, the younger brother is going to be a little chesty.

“That’s a debate we’re never going to get to the end of because there’s three of us,” said Otega. “We were always battling, but I’m always going to put myself ahead. Both of us are pretty good athletes. We’re good at what we do, but it’s never going to come to an end on who we think is the best one.”

“You gotta love Otega because he’s very humble. But I would like to say that I’m the best athlete, just based off playing both sports. I want to see Otega come on the gridirion and see what he can do,” said Odafe, before admitting something he probably didn’t want to admit.

“Otega’s crazy. The last time I played against him, he was probably around 16 and he almost dunked on me. I couldn’t stay in front of him, so I knew he was a little bit different, so I’ll give it to him right now.”
