BTI's Rants and Ramblings: If you could ask John Calipari 1 Question.......
Most UK fans will never have the time or interest to call-in to one of John Calipari’s coaches shows and get to ask the coach a question. And almost no fans will ever get to participate in a press conference with Cal either. So the reality is that the number of people who actually get to question the coach directly is very small. A handful of media members and a handful of screened fans on a coaches show. But I am sure that we all have questions. Many, many questions.
What I wonder though is what is one question you really would want answered. If you could take your one chance to speak to John Calipari and he gave you one question, what would that be?
Mine? I think my question to Cal would vary depending on the year. But I think at this time in the program, following the year we had and the multiple incidents that Cal had with comments concerning the current state of the program and fans is this:
*Does John Calipari feel that he has always been honest to this fanbase or has he deliberately altered the truth in certain areas and if he has lied before, what is the purpose of doing that?
I’m not sure the relationship between Calipari and the fans has ever been more strained. And maybe I am wrong, but I think the results on the court have only been one factor. Cal has become so combative when discussing the fans. Now, if I was the coach, and seeing the impact that so many fans reactions to the kneeling had on the program, I’d be a little pissed. And I would have no problem with him saying that. But that’s not what he says. The way he mocks fans as unintelligent is offensive. And then to top that, he constantly doesn’t tell us the truth. Some might call it hyperbole. Some just say that is Cal’s personality. But it always seems so unnecessary. Sometimes Cal says things that are ridiculous but they are funny. Are we everybody’s Super Bowl? No, we’re not. Do teams always play over their heads against us? Absolutely not. No stats consistently back that up.
But Calipari has moved more from funny exaggerations to deception it seems. And it is partnered with, what seems to be, a souring of Cal’s opinion of the fanbase.

The irony of my question doesn’t escape me. I would like to ask him if he is always honest with us and he very well could lie with his answer. But I don’t ever seem to hear questions from reporters or fans that use Cal’s word against him. Bring up past things he has said that seemed likes lies at the time and then were proven to be lies and ask him why he did that. Or, does Calipari genuinely think he is telling the truth but reality is escaping him?
Either way, I’d love to see his feet put the fire just a bit more about some of the “mistruths” that have been thrown around for the last couple years.
