Buffalo Bills Definitely Will NOT win the Super Bowl after Parting Ways with Mike Edwards
Mike Edwards brings good Super Bowl mojo to every NFL team that signs him. He won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in his second season and when he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, they brought home another Lombardi Trophy.
Don’t be mistaken. Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes aren’t the reasons why they won those championships. It was Mike Edwards. That’s why it’s difficult for me to tell Buffalo Bills fans that they will NOT be winning the Super Bowl.
According to Tom Pelissero, Edwards asked to be released by the Bills. They granted his request after failing to find a trade partner.
This offseason, the Bills reshaped their secondary by parting ways with a couple of veterans and signing Edwards to a 1-year, $2.8 million contract. He was poised to play an important role on the defense, but that has not been the case. Edwards was a healthy scratch for most of the season, recording just one tackle in three games.
The Kentucky Badger hasn’t lost a step. Last year was the second-most productive season of his career. He played in 17 games and had 51 tackles, an interception in the Wild Card round, and two fumble recoveries, including a 97-yard scoop-and-score.

The 6-year veteran has started in 28 of 78 career games played. That experience should make him a desirable commodity as a free agent where he will hopefully find a safe landing spot for the second half of the season.
Edwards is one of the most underrated players of the Mark Stoops era. He is the only player without an extra Covid year to reach the school’s 300-Tackle Club, and one of just two defensive backs to surpass that milestone.
A three-time All-SEC selection, the safety from Cincinnati never missed a game in his four-year career and totaled 44 consecutive starts. He finished his career with 10 interceptions, tied for the fourth-most in school history, and returned two of those turnovers for touchdowns. A key cog on the dominant 2018 defense, during his senior season he ranked second on the team in tackles (76), TFLs (9.0), PBUs (6), and INTs (2).
