Cal Sends the Jersey to Obama

by:Matt Jones09/03/09
hkhkh As our eagle-eye detectives from yesterday surmised, the signed #44 jersey from Calipari went to Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States. In so doing, Calipari makes certain that the most powerful man in the world has the most powerful jersey in the world. While other guesses might be disappointed (my guess is that Dan Issel and Chuck Hayes can get a signed jersey themselves if they want it), the leader of the Free World can now sport the same number as some UK greats. Proving however that no good deed goes unpunished, Calipari took heat from some loud fans today who blasted him on Facebook for his decision. Calipari even had to remove his original post announcing that he was giving Obama the jersey because of "inappropriate comments" that were not fit for the site. While I didnt see the comments myself, having read similar things here, I am sure I know the type of thing said. My only retort...people need to get over themselves. Obama is the President of the United States and if you cant leave aside political disagreements enough to understand that it would be amazingly cool to see the President in a UK jersey, well then you really need some perspective in your life. Add to that the fact that it is almost certain that 90 percent of all recruits are Obama fans (watch their eyes light up when his name is mentioned) and UNC apparently sends the picture of Obama playing with last year's team in recruiting letters, and the decision was nothing if not a smart P.R. move. The President is the President, and if you can get behind him in Blue, move along. Now if UK Hockey can only get Sarah Palin to pose in one of those Ashley Judd poster poses....
