Kentucky’s coaching staff is currently mining the transfer portal for upgrades to the 2023 roster, but some big developments are also occurring in high school recruiting. Coaches hit the road this week to evaluate prospects as official visits are being scheduled for June.

St. Louis (Mo.) DeSmet EDGE Caleb Redd has locked in an official visit with Kentucky for June 16-18. Defensive coordinator Brad White is looking to add some depth to the outside linebacker position in Lexington.

Per On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons, the mid three-star prospect has scheduled three official visits to USC (June 2-4), Oklahoma (June 9-11), and Kentucky. Safeties coach Frank Buffano is running point on this recruitment for the Wildcats

“I got a good relationships with all the coaches,” Redd told On3. “We talk daily. They keep up with me. Coach Buffano, he was at our practice recently and watched me work out. They all like me and I feel comfortable at their school.”

Redd would also like to visit Kansas State, but that has not been added to the recruit’s summer schedule yet. The Missouri native has made a pair of unofficial visit trips to Lexington since October. During Kentucky’s junior day on Jan. 28, Redd came away impressed with the Wildcats.

“It feels great,” Redd said “Everybody there was happy. You can tell the players are excited to be there. They all had smiles on their faces and it felt like home.”

Metro St. Louis has not been an area that Kentucky has had a ton of recruiting success. However, things can change quickly in college football. The Wildcats enter the 2023 season with five scholarship EDGE players, but J.J. Weaver could be spending his final season in Lexington and class of 2023 signee Grant Godfrey could eventually settle in at off-ball linebacker. The outside linebacker position is a major need in the 2024 recruiting cycle. Caleb Redd is emerging into a key target for the Wildcats.

Recruiting never stops.
