Caleb Wilson dropped 24 points, 16 rebounds in season-opener with Trae Young in attendance
Caleb Wilson‘s season-opener on Saturday drew plenty of local celebrities, including Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young. Wilson made sure to put on a show for the three-time NBA All-Star, too.
Wilson, ranked No. 5 overall in the 2025 class, has yet to make his college decision, but he’s of special interest to the Big Blue Nation. Kentucky made his top-five list with an announcement expected in the coming months. Head coach Mark Pope has positioned the Wildcats as the favorites. We saw why Pope is so high on him over the weekend as Wilson went for 24 points, 16 rebounds, four blocks, and two steals for Atlanta’s Holy Innocents Episcopal School.
His senior season debut ended in a 78-70 overtime loss to Pace Academy, but Wilson made his impact felt from start to finish. After a slow start against Pace’s pressure, the 6-foot-9, 195-pound forward picked it up from there. At times, he was operating from the high post as a point-forward (which Pope needs to run effectively his offense).
If Wilson wasn’t trying to set up his teammates, he was taking his defender off the dribble with a head of steam toward the hoop. The five-star recruit converted several tough finishes at the rim, usually going through multiple defenders.

Wilson finished his performance with an 8-16 shooting clip from the field, including an 8-13 mark from the free throw line (which probably should have been closer to 20 attempts). However, he did miss both of his shots from beyond the arc, but he was clearly the best and most physical player on the floor.
Holy Innocents even trailed by 10 going into the fourth quarter before forcing overtime. Wilson canned a pair of free throws with 19 seconds left that put his team in front by two before Pace. He even blocked what was a game-tying shot attempt by Pace in the closing seconds, but the loose ball went to the opposition. Pace would get fouled and hit both shots to force overtime as Wilson missed the game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer.
Expect more stat lines like this from Wilson throughout his final high school season. He’ll be in action again tonight at 7:45 p.m. EST when Holy Innocents takes on Riverwood as part of the Buckhead Hoops Festival.
