Calipari expects Kentucky will "probably be a two, maybe a three" in NCAA
Now that Kentucky has been removed from the SEC Tournament, the next step is learning the team’s spot in the NCAA Tournament. Tomorrow, the bracket will be revealed on the Selection Sunday special on CBS, scheduled for 6 p.m. once all conference tournaments are complete.
As it stands now, a No. 2 seed is the likely seed line for the Wildcats in the Big Dance. Joe Lunardi updated his Bracketology after the game to move Kentucky to his fourth No. 2 seed and the eighth-ranked team in the field. As Lunardi sees it, Kentucky will be in Baylor’s region over regions with Gonzaga, Arizona, and Kansas as the top seeds. However, there is still basketball to be played tonight and tomorrow.
John Calipari also expects a No. 2 seed for his team, but didn’t have a lot to offer when asked about Kentucky in the next tournament following Kentucky’s Saturday elimination from Tampa.
“Probably be a two, maybe a three,” Calipari replied in his postgame press conference. “Who knows? I’m not in the room, but we’ll see. My guess is it will be a very hard path because it always is.”

He also made cases for Auburn and Tennessee to be among the top seeds in the NCAA.
“Auburn may be on the one seed line,” Calipari guessed. “You know what, Tennessee has played so well, but they say they don’t do that anymore. Your last 10. They look at your body of work, you know, who you beat, your quad ones and all the other stuff they go with. I just wish they did some eye test, like watch. Forget about numbers. Do you know basketball? Watch the games.
“Tennessee, could they be a one? I don’t know. What have they — I haven’t — if you know me, I’m not seeing it, reading it, hearing about. I don’t really care. So our people were saying, hey, we have a chance at a one. I’m just trying to win a ball game. So what has Tennessee been? What has their seed line been? Could they move to a one? Maybe. If they’re saying we were a one, they beat us 2 for 20 and big guy out in the first half and some other stuff, but they beat us. And Auburn has had a great year.”
We’ll find out tomorrow at 6 p.m. Until then, try to forget taking a second straight loss to those stinkin’ Vols.
