Calipari says Kentucky is the most hated team in the country on the road

by:Ally Tucker02/15/14
(From CoachCal.com) John Calipari isn't one to shy away from letting his opinion be shared. The ESPN Game Day crew sat down with Calipari and part of the discussion led to talking about fan behavior in relation to the Marcus Smart situation. "We've gotten a little off course (college basketball fans)," Calipari said when talking about the state of college basketball and how fans have been going a little overboard. Jay Bilas is not happy with the fact that Oklahoma State did not issue much of a response or statement on the behavior of the fans in college basketball. Bilas saw it as a missed opportunity on Oklahoma State's part, admitting that part of the hesitancy was because the fan involved was a "big money guy" for the program. Calipari has taken a recent stance that fans (Kentucky in particular) need to cheer for their own team. He knows that when Kentucky goes on the road, the hate from the opponents is real. "The biggest thing is, we know when we go on the road, you are the most hated program in the country. I'm the most hated coach. It's what happens on the road. It's a rivalry though. Don't respond to it." Calipari talked about how his team still responds too much to bad calls by officials and things of that nature.
