Kentucky ended its first significant recruiting weekend of the month of June by adding a multi-sport star from the South, Antwan Smith. He may not be the only versatile athlete to join the Wildcats from this weekend’s big event in Lexington.

Cam Dooley, a three-star athlete from Valley, Alabama, tells KSR’s Adam Luckett he will announce his college decision on our nation’s birthday, July 4. The unranked prospect currently holds offers from three SEC schools. In addition to Kentucky, Missouri and Vanderbilt are in the mix. He will be in Nashville for an official visit to Vanderbilt next weekend.

Prior to this weekend’s official visit, Dooley gave a glowing review of the program. Frank Buffano and Zach Yenser appear to have made an exceptional first impression.

“I love the program,” he told KSR+. “I love how they treat me and I love how they treat me as a player. I’m not even there yet or committed, but they treat me like I’m family already.”

Cam Dooley: Jack of All Trades

Cam Dooley is a 6-foot-4 safety, quarterback and wide receiver. Whether he’s catching passes, picking them off or throwing them, he does a little bit of everything for Valley High School. The raw talent and pure athleticism is evident on tape.

In addition to his success on the gridiron, Dooley is a baller on the hardwood. Basketball was his first love, and he initially planned to stick with hoops when he received his first small college offer last summer. Plans changed when SEC schools realized he could play safety at the next level.

The versatility of Cam Dooley is a common theme among the lower-ranked prospects Kentucky is pursuing on the defensive side of the ball. Antwan Smith doubles as a track star in the 100- and 200-meter dash. The Wildcats are seeking out diamonds in the rough from the Deep South. We’ll see if the early investment pays dividends in the fall.
