Cameron Calhoun, 3-Star Kentucky Target, Decommits from West Virginia
Cameron Calhoun is back on the open market. The three-star cornerback did something unusual Monday afternoon. Most players, like Jamarrion Harkless, cap off an official visit by announcing a commitment. He did the opposite, decommitting from West Virginia after officially visiting Morgantown.
“To the University of West Virginia, I’m so thankful to have this opportunity to be recruited, and be committed to a wonderful university,” Calhoun Tweeted. “I would like to thank Coach Brown for believing in me and letting me be a part of the Mountaineer family. I would also like to thank the Mountaineer family for taking me in as one of theirs and treating me well since I’ve been committed. After further discussions and gathering information, me and my family have decided that I will be decommitting from the University of West Virginia.”
Calhoun’s recruitment has taken many twists and turns. He initially committed to the Mountaineers in March. Kentucky was considered the favorite, yet the Cats weren’t ready to take his commitment at the time. It resulted in a fake-out video with Calhoun ditching Kentucky blue for Country Roads.

The big mess appeared to strain the relationship between Kentucky and one of Calhoun’s teammates, cornerback Jermaine Mathews. By now, things have cooled between the Wildcats and the Winton Woods defensive backs. However, Vince Marrow has more competition this summer. The dynamic duo received excellent reviews from a camp in Columbus and Mathews left with an Ohio State offer. This weekend Calhoun will hit the road for an official visit to Rutgers.
As the summer heats up, KSR will be closely monitoring Kentucky’s recruitment of the Winton Woods cornerbacks.
