A Kentucky Wildcat has a new piece of hardware for his dorm room today. Cason Wallace was named SEC Freshman of the Week for his performances vs. Vanderbilt and Kansas. Wallace averaged 12.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 steals in the win over the ‘Dores and the loss to the Jayhawks. This is his second SEC Freshman of the Week award; he won his first on Dec. 27 following a career performance vs. Florida A&M. Tennessee’s Zakai Zeigler won SEC Player of the Week for his 22-points, 10-assist performance in the Volunteers’ win over No. 10 Texas.

In Kentucky’s 69-53 win over Vanderbilt on Tuesday, Wallace had 10 points and five rebounds, including back-to-back clutch threes to extend the Cats’ lead to 12 at the start of the second half. On Saturday vs. Kansas, he had 14 points, six rebounds, and a team-best five assists and five steals. The games were Wallace’s 11th and 12th double-figure scoring games of the season. His five steals vs. Kansas marked his second-highest total of the year and the fourth time he’s tallied four or more steals in a game.

This is Kentucky’s third SEC weekly honor this season. As mentioned, Wallace won SEC Freshman of the Week on Dec. 27. Last week, Oscar Tshiebwe earned SEC Player of the Week for his 37-point, 24-rebound performance vs. Georgia. Kentucky has won more weekly SEC honors (122) than any other school during the John Calipari era, including 92 SEC Freshman of the Week awards and 30 SEC Player of the Week honors.

Congrats, Cason.
