When Kenny Brooks arrived in Lexington, he had some decisions to make across the board. From his new recruiting pitch to assembling a staff to navigating the transfer portal, a lot was on Brooks’ plate.

The roster construction may have been the most complicated piece to the puzzle, as you’d imagine. At the time of his arrival, several players from last year’s team were still ‘Cats, and Brooks had to decide on who he wanted to try to bring back and who he ultimately didn’t see as a great fit in his system.

Brooks ended up returning two players from the 2023-24 team in Saniah Tyler and Cassidy Rowe. Being from Kentucky, Rowe desperately wanted to remain in Lexington, even if that meant things were going to only get tougher from here on out.

“[I] definitely wanted to be here, playing for my home state,” Rowe explained. “Coach Brooks laid it out for me. He laid out expectations, told me it wasn’t going to be easy at times, but that’s the way I like it. I’m very thankful that he’s given me the opportunity to continue playing for Kentucky.”

Rowe saw a jump in minutes from her freshman to sophomore season. Heading into her junior year, Rowe can not only be a valuable contributor on the court, but she can also be one of the vocal leaders that this team will need at many points throughout this season.
