Every year thousands of little girls attend Big Blue Madness and dream of getting to participate in the event. On Friday night, Kentucky Women’s Basketball player Cassidy Rowe fulfilled that dream.

Rowe is a Bluegrass native, hailing from Virgie, KY. The freshman committed to Kentucky over four years ago; talk about waiting for your opportunity. Now, Rowe is soaking in the spotlight.

“I’m really excited. This is a dream come true for me and it’s going to be a great night,” Rowe said in an interview with KSR before Big Blue Madness.

A family affair

Rowe isn’t the only one who’s carried this dream for years. Rowe’s father, Lonnie Rowe, has been a pivotal part of Rowe’s athletic journey. From coaching Cassidy in high school to rebounding for her in the Joe Craft Center, Lonnie has been involved every step of the way.

On Friday, Lonnie Rowe put out a tweet that brought tears to even the toughest Kentucky fan’s eyes.

“It’s happening tomorrow night at Big Blue Madness!! My mom and dad will be smiling from heaven. Dads dream was to have a family member play for the big blue,” Lonnie tweeted.

Cassidy Rowe’s long-awaited night

The 5-foot-6 point guard earned her spot. Rowe averaged 16.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game as a senior at Shelby Valley High School. She’s elated to see all her hard work finally come to fruition.

“It’s every little girl’s dream, especially those who get to actually come and experience Big Blue Madness. I mean this is a big deal for Big Blue Nation. It’s truly an honor to be a part of it,” Rowe said.

Rowe isn’t taking her experience for granted, either.

“I don’t have anything that I’m necessarily fearing just because this is my dream and this is what I’ve worked for my whole life,” Rowe said at Kentucky WBB Media Day on Oct. 5.
