On Sunday, we saw a much better effort from the Kentucky women’s basketball team as the ‘Cats took down the Gators 81-77 to defend home court. A lot went right to get Kentucky its third win SEC win, but something that may fly under the radar was the toughness that the team showed.
As a unit, Kentucky drew seven charges against Florida. Janae Walker and Brooklynn Miles had one each, Emma King drew two, and sophomore guard Cassidy Rowe drew three against the Gators. I don’t know about you all, but being trucked by someone, falling, and then hitting the hardwood doesn’t sound very fun.
And Cassidy Rowe did that three times on Sunday. Sheesh.
We actually lost count of how many charges the Bluegrass native drew on Sunday. I’m not kidding. That’s how many she drew.
Possibly altering the outcome of the game
Three more drawn charges put Rowe at 24 this season. She is (clearly) willing to put her body on the line if it means changing the tide of the game. Every charge that the sophomore draws is another defensive stop — another foul on the opponent. And she has done that 24 times this season.

With the final score being 81-77, you have to give Rowe some huge credit for the win. Think about it. Kentucky won by two scores, and Rowe drew three charges. If she doesn’t put her body on the line, that’s three more scoring opportunities for Florida, and they probably win the game.
Players like Eniya Russell, Maddie Scherr, and Ajae Petty deserve all the credit in the world for making an impact in the box score. However, players can make a difference outside of the box score, and Cassidy Rowe does that game in and game out.
Now, get that girl an ice bath. Kentucky is gonna need her against Mississippi State on Thursday.
