Cassidy Rowe looked for her shot and did the little things right against Texas A&M
Kentucky’s loss to Texas A&M on Sunday was downright ugly. It was just a no-fun, sluggish type of game. However, why focus on what went wrong? There’s enough doom and gloom surrounding the Kentucky women’s basketball program, so let’s talk about Cassidy Rowe, one of the glaring positives from Sunday’s loss.
Against the Aggies, Rowe scored six points by going 2-5 from three-point range. That may not seem like much, but that’s a 40% clip, which you’ll definitely take. On a team full of inconsistency and cold streaks, it was nice to see Rowe looking for her shot and making them at an efficient rate.
She has never been one to drop 20+ in a game because that’s just not how she plays. However, Rowe took the shots given to her and she made them when it mattered the most. You’ll take that seven days a week and twice on Sundays.
Of course, the scoring isn’t the only thing we’re here to talk about. In the loss to Texas A&M, Rowe drew her team-high 19th charge of the season. Undoubtedly, the Virgie, KY native is the toughest player on this Kentucky team. In her 32 minutes on the floor, Rowe was flying around and hustling all game. It seemed like it was every other play that Rowe was picking herself up off of the floor.
Kyra Elzy taking notice of Rowe’s effort
Postgame, Coach Elzy made sure to give her sophomore guard a shoutout despite the loss.
“I have a lot of confidence in her, especially when she can catch and shoot the ball,” Elzy said. “I thought she moved, got open. We’ll take those from her. Proud of her. Then, I want to give her a big shoutout. She plays extremely hard, but she also leads the team in charges. No matter the size, she’s gonna stand there and take a charge.”

Elzy would add, “I think she’s taken 19 [charges] on the year. She’s going to get one every game, and that’s the ultimate sacrifice for your team. You’re willing to do the dirty work that doesn’t necessarily always show up in the headlines of the paper. So, shoutout to Cassidy Rowe and her intensity and ability to sacrifice her body.”
Well Coach, Cassidy Rowe’s efforts did make the headlines of this one, and deservedly so. In what was mostly a demoralizing effort, Rowe executed her role to perfection and made for a positive talking point leading into the Auburn game on Thursday.
Let’s see if Rowe can keep knocking down the shots and maybe even take her 20th charge of the season against the Tigers.
