Cats land Defensive Lineman from Georgia

by:Matt Jones07/19/06
For those of you who claim that no football is spoken about on this website, I give you this bit about the latest 2007 Kentucky football recruit, Shane McCord. McCord (no word if he is related to Gary above) is a 6'1" 250 pound defensive lineman from Hart County, Georgia. Amazingly McCord picked the football Cats over a number of teams, including the Tennessee Volunteers who had recently offered him a scholarship. McCord claimed that a big reason for the commitment was the fact that Kentucky had been recruiting him the longest and that he liked the loyalty the staff showed. Equally as helpful was the fact that McCord is good friends with current Cat, Sam Maxwell, a high school teammate of McCord's. I have noticed in football recruiting, the idea of getting teammates to come as a package deal is much more common than in basketball....most likely due to the increased number of scholarships. McCord is hoping to visit to watch the Cats play his home state Georgia this fall and here is hoping that whatever he sees at that game does not lead him to choose another school. I would only book all recruits to come to the Texas State game, and if that is booked, the Louisiana-Monroe game....but that is just me. But once again, Coach Brooks has gotten another solid player to come to UK and increases the standing of football recruiting at the school. Now if he can just actually win games, we will be getting somewhere.
