As the dust finally begins to settle on the official rosters for the 2021-22 college basketball season, preseason bracketology predictions will begin to flood in.

Granted, media outlets have been posting Bracketology projections for the 2022 NCAA Tournament since the moment the 2021 edition came to a conclusion. But, as we all know, Kentucky didn’t make the 2021 NCAA Tournament, so fans of the Big Blue Nation have been looking ahead for a while now.

Well, look no further–CBS Sports’ hoop expert Jerry Palm unveiled an updated Bracketology prediction on Friday that has the Kentucky Wildcats sitting comfortably as a three-seed in the Midwest Region with a first-round matchup against 14-seed Wright State.

This projection lines up with what most national media members are saying about Kentucky: they have a chance to be very, very good, but could be missing an elite-level talent that can make them a top three or four team in the country.

When ESPN last updated its Bracketology on Aug. 10, Kentucky was also tabbed as a three-seed, going up against 14-seed South Dakota State in the first round. CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish ranked the Wildcats at No. 13 overall in his preseason Top 25 from Aug. 6 while ESPN’s Jeff Borzello slotted UK at No. 8 in his preseason Top 25 from July 27.

In Palm’s bracket predictions, he views Gonzaga, UCLA, Texas, and Kansas as the one-seeds with Baylor, Michigan, Villanova, and Purdue coming in as two-seeds. Joining Kentucky as the three-seeds are Oregon, Duke, and Illinois.

Palm also has the Louisville Cardinals sneaking in as 12-seed and the revamped Memphis Tigers as a five-seed. Memphis and head coach Penny Hardaway recently added five-star center Jalen Duren to the lineup along with NBA legend Rasheed Wallace to the coaching staff. There’s still a good chance Memphis signs five-star forward Emoni Bates, too.

Football season is close, but basketball season is never too far away.
