The class of 2024 recruiting cycle is off and running for college football programs. At the University of Kentucky, the coaching staff is issuing out verbal scholarship offers and attempting to schedule visits for a huge upcoming junior day on Jan. 28. On Friday, a local product received an offer.

But this wasn’t a typical local prospect. Tim Couch’s son, Chase, has received an offer from the Wildcats.

The Lexington (Ky.) Christian Academy rising junior camped at Kentucky last summer and the EDGE player is on the radar in Lexington. Chase’s father, Tim, of course, set a billion passing records at Kentucky.

As a two-year starter under Hal Mumme and offensive coordinator Mike Leach from 1997-98, the older Couch passed for over 3,800 yards in each season with 73 total touchdowns. The former blue-chip recruit of Hyden (Ky.) Leslie County led Kentucky to a New Year’s Day Bowl in 1998. During his career, Couch helped Kentucky record wins over Louisville, Alabama, and LSU. He would leave Lexington after three years and become the No. 1 overall pick of the Cleveland Browns in the 1999 NFL Draft.

A quarter century later, another Couch could be coming to Kentucky to play football. Chase Couch will be a prospect to monitor moving forward in the class of 2024.
