Chin Coleman receives raise, contract extension through 2024-25 season
The biggest news with Kentucky Basketball’s staff this summer is Jai Lucas leaving for Duke and K.T. Turner coming in to take his place. Turns out there was some more action behind the scenes. Assistant coach Chin Coleman received a one-year contract extension and raise in May. Jon Hale first broke the news this morning, and Coleman’s amended contract is now on UK’s website for your viewing pleasure.
Chin’s new deal raises his salary for the upcoming season from $500,000 to $575,000 and the 2023-24 season from $550,000 to $600,000. It also extends his contract through the 2024-25 season, for which he will be paid $650,000. That’s a lot of suits.
Chin came to Kentucky from Illinois last summer with former UK assistant Orlando Antigua. In addition to bringing some serious sartorial flair to Kentucky’s sideline, he wasn’t afraid to speak up during games, often drawing the ire of John Calipari. Clearly, the contract extension and raise show all is good between the two, and that Kentucky is willing to ante up to keep Chin on staff (after the season, there was talk he may join Dennis Gates’ staff at Missouri).
I think this calls for a Griddy.
