Chip Gaines is tweeting Kentucky fans about Scott Drew
Just when you thought Kentucky fans calling a Mexican restaurant in Waco was the craziest part of Day 3 of the coaching search, Chip Gaines entered the chat. The reality TV star, Baylor alum, and friend of Scott Drew decided to join the fun online and has been going back and forth with Kentucky fans all afternoon.
Who is Chip Gaines? As he put it, you might want to ask your mom.
Gaines and his wife Joanna are the stars of the HGTV megahit Fixer Upper, a home improvement show in which they renovate houses. The show is so successful they’ve been able to start their own media brand, Magnolia, which includes a magazine, TV network, app, real estate brokerage, and the Hearth & Hand home decor collection for Target. If your television has spent any time on HGTV, you’ve surely seen them or one of their many shiplap rooms or barndominiums.
Both Chip and Joanna are Baylor alums and now, huge boosters. Scott Drew published his memoir, “The Road To Joy” under Magnolia Pubblications, the Gaines’ imprint, in 2022. So, they’re tight and Chip and Joanna clearly do not want Drew to leave Waco.
That brings us to today. When #BBN Twitter started heating up about Drew potentially coming to Lexington, Chip couldn’t help but join the fray. The tweet above was his best comeback but he brought Dan Hurley and even God into it too.

Gaines insisted the back-and-forth is all in good fun. Hilariously, he’s even sending a Magnolia care package to the mother of the Kentucky fan who asked “who tf” he was to initiate the banter.
You can be fans of both Kentucky and Baylor, Chip and Joanna. I hear the practice facility and Wildcat Coal Lodge need a makeover.
