Another Kentucky pass-catcher is seeking more snaps elsewhere. Chris Lewis will become the fourth Wildcat wide receiver to enter the transfer portal following the 2022 season. Lewis cannot officially enter the portal until Dec. 5. After hinting at a move earlier this week on Twitter, he publicly shared his intentions on Instagram.

Chris Lewis played high school football at Pleasant Grove, just outside of Birmingham, AL. The Top 500 player was a four-star prospect in some recruiting services. Lewis was ranked as the No. 63 wide receiver prospect in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

A bonafide superstar in the state of Alabama, the two-sport star was named Birmingham Athlete of the Year in 2021 by Al.com. He led Pleasant Grove to back-to-back 5A State Title appearances, totaling 2,633 receiving yards and 39 touchdowns over his final two years of high school football.

As a true freshman Kentucky preserved his redshirt by playing Lewis in only four games. They saved them all for the end of the season, calling his number to play significant snaps in the Citrus Bowl vs. Iowa. Entering the 2022 season, wide receivers coach Scott Woodward described Lewis as the “most improved player” in his position group. Still, he only played sparingly (in part thanks to injury), catching two passes for 22 yards, including his first career touchdown against Youngstown State.

Chris Lewis brought range (6-foot-4) and athleticism to Lexington, yet needed more time to physically mature. Kentucky is currently recruiting wide receiver better than any other position. After bringing in Barion Brown and Dane Key in 2022, the Wildcats have two more four-stars, Anthony Brown and Shamar Porter, moving to Lexington in 2023. Unable to receive reps in a crowded room, he’ll be looking for a new home elsewhere. It should not take him long. Best of luck.
