Kentucky football hosted the first of four Wildcat One Day camps on Monday. While the Sunday Showcase Camp featured well over a hundred high school prospects, the start of the week saw a much lighter crowd. The benefit of that? It allowed the Kentucky coaches to spend more time focusing on their favorite prospects.

Several of the campers in attendance on Monday left Kroger Field with offers. Arguably the most impressive of the bunch was class of 2027 quarterback Trae Taylor, who suits up for Carmel Catholic High School in Illinois. Only a rising sophomore, Taylor came into this week holding offers from the likes of Michigan, Maryland, Miami (FL), Colorado, Illinois, Purdue, NC State, and several mid-major schools.

After shining in front of Kentucky’s new offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan during Monday’s camp, Taylor can add the Wildcats to his stash of scholarship opportunities. After a quick tour of the facilities alongside his mom following camp, Taylor got together with Hamdan for a quick conversation that ended in an offer being extended.

“This is something I did expect,” Taylor told KSR shortly after his camp visit. “But it’s only because how hard I’ve worked in the past and it’s showing off right now. Once we get the ball rolling with recruiting, the goal is to continue to knock the ball out of the park.”

This was actually the second time in Lexington for Taylor, who was invited by Hamdan to the Spring Game that took place in early April. Taylor was treated to a tour of the facilities then, too. The next step with Kentucky is to get on campus for a gameday visit this season.

“We will probably come back in the fall,” Taylor said. “But we’re still figuring all that out right now. We don’t know where we’re going at all.”

Taylor describes himself as a dual-threat quarterback, although he says he hasn’t been able to showcase just how athletic he is when scrambling outside of the pocket. Clocking in at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, he’s on track to have the size needed to play big-boy football.

Up next, Taylor has a slew of additional camp visits to attend. He’s already been extremely busy since the beginning of spring (he unofficially visited UCLA and Southern California in mid-April and attended other camps), and that will continue into the summer. He’ll camp at Indiana on Tuesday before eventually making stops at North Carolina, Duke, NC State, Oklahoma, a return trip to Illinois, Purdue, and possibly South Florida.

Taylor has the chance to become a top-tier quarterback prospect in the very near future. Kentucky wants to make sure it’s in the race for his commitment down the line.
