John Calipari recently dipped into the state of Indiana to bring in a talented shooting guard. Is he looking to add another?

Braylon Mullins, a rising junior at Greenfield (IN) Central, has heard from Kentucky men’s basketball assistant coach Chuck Martin, his father tells KSR. LGHoops was first to report the news. Mullins initially heard from Martin on Wednesday as the two sides look to build a relationship. Earlier in the summer, Kentucky added three-star shooting guard Joey Hart, also from Indiana, as a freshman for the 2023-24 roster.

Although currently unranked in the class of 2025, Mullins is a 6-foot-4 shooting guard who shined this summer for Indiana Elite U16 on the Adidas 3SSB circuit. He is teammates with fellow rising junior Malachi Moreno, a four-star center who plays high school ball at Georgetown (KY) Great Crossing.

Kentucky watched Indiana Elite several times this summer with the intention to keep tabs on Moreno, but Mullins ended up catching the staff’s eye.

Mullins has been on the rise throughout the summer as he heads into his junior season. Notre Dame, Iowa, and Virginia Tech have extended him scholarships coming off his stellar play at the Adidas 3SSB Championships in early July, where he shot nearly 47 percent from beyond the arc. He also holds offers from the likes of Ohio, Southern Indiana, Indiana State, Kent State, Tulane, Toldeo, Miami (OH), and other non-Power 5 schools. On3’s Jamie Shaw reported on Wednesday that Mullins has unofficial visits set to see Notre Dame (9/23), Indiana, Iowa, and Ohio State this fall.

As an interesting side note, Mullins’ first Divison I offer came in Oct. 2021 from IUPUI, which is where his father Josh was a starter on the 2002-03 squad that fell to Kentucky in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Josh Mullins, who is also from Greenfield, IN, averaged 12.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game as a full-time starter that season.

KSR’s Brandon Ramsey, who has endless ties to Indiana high school basketball, has scouted Braylon Mullins several times in the past. Here is what Ramsey had to say about his game:

“Mullins is a highly-skilled, 6’5” guard that continues to develop athletically and physically. His maturation over the last 6-8 months allowed him to have a breakout summer with Indiana Elite on the 3SSB Circuit where he proved himself as one of the top shooters in the class. The Greenfield-Central product is comfortable creating off of a couple of dribbles and has flashed passing & playmaking ability. However, it all comes back to his elite shooting ability at 6’5”. Two more years in the weight room could send him shooting up the national rankings. Highly projectable prospect that is already a plug-and-play shooting threat.”
