Coach Cal Is Busy Today
The staff should show up at every in-home visit with this hardware.
There’s a lot of exciting stuff happening with some high-level recruits for the UK staff today. Today marks the beginning of the fall contact period for basketball recruiting. This signals the start of in-home visit season and that stretch of recruiting which spans football season, leading to a lot of basketball guys going to a lot of football games on visits. In fact, it’s kind of mind blowing how many places the Kentucky staff plans to be today. Let’s take a look at all the places the coaches will be today:
Plano, TX — To kick off the contact period, it looks as if Coach Cal and Co. will be heading to Texas for an in-home visit with Julius Randle today. September 9th has been in the books at the in-home visit date for little bit now, and Randle recently announced he’ll be coming up to Lexington next weekend for his visit. Today’s in-home (assuming it’s still happening) could be a perfect primer for next weekend.
Houston, TX — If I was in charge of logistics for the UK staff, I’d make sure to save on jet fuel costs this weekend by visiting another Texas recruits’ home the same day as Randle. And that may happen. The Harrison twins set their in-home visit schedule last night, and UK will be there either today, Monday, or Wednesday. Maryland, Baylor, Villanova, and SMU will also be doing the same. There’s no official word that today is the day, but it could make sense if the staff has time. However, there’s another place Calipari plans to be today…

Huntington, WV — As reported earlier this week, Coach Cal will be heading to Huntington Prep to watch Andrew Wiggins. (To be clear, this is not an in-home visit.) Leonard Hamilton of Florida State is slated to join Cal, and supposedly North Carolina may be sending someone as well. It’s clear that none of these coaches need to ‘watch’ Wiggins work out/play/whatever he’ll be doing today in order determine whether he’s worth their time. The kid is amazing, and this trip to watch him is another way for each coach to make sure Wiggins knows they are committed to him.
It looks like Calipari could be very, very busy today. With the level of talent he’ll be hanging out with today, all that travelling will certainly be worth it.
