Prepare for the First Cold Weather Kentucky Football Game in 2024
Kentucky is giving a true freshman quarterback his first start. It will be against a rival in freezing temperatures. What could go wrong?
Since the Governor’s Cup moved to the season finale, the fine folks from the Commonwealth of Kentucky have not been blessed with the best weather, especially when the game is played at Kroger Field. Lynn Bowden ran through rain in 30-degree weather until Scott Satterfield’s tears froze to his face. The weather won’t be that bad, but you need to layer up when you make the trek to the Kroge.
Accuweather forecasts 35-degree temperatures for the noon kickoff at Kroger Field. It will feel closer to 24 degrees in the shade. An inch of snow isn’t expected to fall until late Saturday night, but there will be wind gusts up to 20 mph during the Governor’s Cup.
For folks like Adam Luckett, there’s nothing more beautiful than cold Football Weather. Hopefully, that’s the case for Cutter Boley.
The true freshman will be making his first start after a couple of impressive second-half performances. He gripped it and ripped it through the warm Texas air for 160 yards against one of the best pass defenses in all of college football. Will he be able to pull the pin and drop bombs in the cold weather?

It’s not an excuse. It’s a fact that the leather football changes when it gets cold outside. Mark Stoops talked about exactly how it might make a difference on Saturday.
“I think it does with the grip and ball security and things of that nature. It does change. It is harder,” said the Kentucky head coach.
“We just have to work it. We will be out there all week and have to make sure we do the best we can. It is the same for both teams, but we do have to be prepared for that. It is a little bit different.”
The cold and windy weather adds another unpredictable variable to what has been a wild series in recent years. Expect the unexpected when Kentucky and Louisville meet on the gridiron Saturday afternoon.
