Collin Morikawa, Scottie Scheffler go low in second round of PGA Championship
The weekend at Valhalla Golf Club got started when Xander Schauffele tied a major championship single-round recording shooting a 63 on Thursday. That marked the start of a birdie party at the 2024 PGA Championship. That party is still ongoing on Friday.
Collin Morikawa scored a six-under 65 on Friday. Scottie Scheffler fired a five-under 66 on Friday. We have quite the leaderboard coming together on moving day eve at the second major championship of the golf season.
Five consecutive birdies before a bogey on his final hole got Collin Morikawa the lead at 11-under with round one leader Xander Schauffele getting an afternoon start on Monday. Three birdies on both the front and back nine allowed Scottie Scheffler to go 67-66 to begin the PGA Championship.
Tony Finau (-6) and Sahith Theegala (-6) will also have a chance to join the group of low scores at the top of the leaderboard heading into the weekend. What we do know is that the champion is probably going to have to get to 20-under or better.

In 2015, Jason Day fired a 20-under at Whistling Straits to defeat Jordan Spieth by three strokes to win his only major championship. No other champion at this event has reached 20-under par. At Valhalla, Tiger Woods (-18 in 2020) and Rory McIlroy (-16 in 2014) have both posted low scores. Those could be surpassed this weekend as the golf course is soft, and the players are taking advantage.
