The doors to Historic Memorial Coliseum will open for the first time on Friday when Kentucky volleyball hosts its home opener against Northern Kentucky. It’s the first of four soft openings following the venue’s $82 million renovations, ongoing since March 2023 and set to wrap up in spring 2025.

Those are just for the finishing touches, though. The state-of-the-art product is already match-ready with the floor down, jumbotron up and seats installed everywhere between. It’s certainly a sight to behold with UK Athletics releasing a few sneak peeks ahead of Friday’s soft opening.

How can you be a part of the new and beautiful Historic Memorial Coliseum? Doors open at 5:30 p.m. ET on Friday ahead of first serve at 6:30 p.m. ET. The matchup will feature giveaways of collectibles for fans in attendance. There will also be locations to collect a commemorative ticket from Friday’s soft opening and volleyball rally towels. The 2023 SEC Championship team will be celebrated prior to the match, as well.

The match vs. Northern Kentucky is part of the 2024 Bluegrass Battle featuring a round-robin with in-state schools Western Kentucky, Morehead State and Northern Kentucky from Friday to Sunday.

University of Kentucky faculty, staff and students will be offered complimentary admission to all of Kentucky volleyball’s home matches with a faculty/staff/student ID while other fans looking to attend can purchase their tickets here.

There will also be soft openings for all sports calling Historic Memorial Coliseum home, volleyball joined by women’s basketball, gymnastics and STUNT. Those details will be released at a later date. The soft openings will build up to the grand opening of Historic Memorial Coliseum in spring 2025 for the 75th anniversary of the Kentucky treasure opening.

It’s a beauty, folks. Pack Historic Memorial Coliseum.
