It’s only been one week of the 2022 NFL season, but franchises across the league are already making early-season adjustments. Two former Kentucky Wildcats found themselves on the receiving end of some of these moves — both good and bad.

On Monday, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they have signed defensive lineman Corey Peters to the practice squad. A day later, the Pittsburgh Steelers released tight end Justin Rigg from the team’s practice squad.

Peters, 34, played at Kentucky from 2006-2009 where he was named to the All-SEC Second-Team as a senior. He is in his 13th season in the NFL after going in the third round of the 2010 Draft, playing five years for the Atlanta Falcons and the last seven with the Arizona Cardinals.

Now with the Jaguars practice squad, Peters could ultimately team up on the field with former Wildcats Josh Allen and Luke Fortner. Allen is the Jags’ star linebacker while the rookie Fortner earned a starting center role during the offseason. Fortner was taken in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft by Jacksonville.

As for Rigg, after going undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft, the former ‘Cat has now been signed and cut by the Cincinnati Bengals and Steelers this summer. He was at Kentucky from 2017-21, playing in a school-record 63 games with 35 total starts, including 16 straight.
