Costco is selling tickets for Louisville football games (and other Power 4 schools)

The headline might suggest that I’m here to make fun of Louisville for having their football tickets sold at a bulk wholesaler, but that’s not entirely true! (Okay it’s a little bit true) While yes, it initially makes me laugh, I’m actually a fan of this idea as a way to provide reasonably priced tickets to fans.

Costco is executing a marketing plan with several Power 4 schools, not just in partnership with Louisville, where a pair of regular-season football tickets can be bought for the low. According to the company’s website, you can also purchase tickets for home games featuring Baylor, Minnesota, Indiana, South Carolina, Rutgers, Washington, Virginia, and more, along with a variety of G5 programs.

For the Louisville tickets specifically, a pair of lower-level endzone seats cost you just $69.99. These tickets are exclusively eligible for the Cardinals’ home games against Austin Peay, Jacksonville State, Georgia Tech, SMU, and Miami (FL). More notably, you don’t have to deal with ticket distributor fees this way (just the annual price of a Costco membership).

It’s definitely amusing to see tickets for Kentucky’s rival on sale at a steroid-infused grocery store, but if you’re a big-time fan and you see tickets right in front of you for a relatively cheap price point, it would be tough to turn them down. There are good opponents for these deals, too. Following Georgia Tech’s win over Florida State last week, the Yellow Jackets coming to Louisville (Sept. 21) will be a hot ticket. $70 for two people to watch from the endzone is a pretty sweet deal.

I know, I know. You were hoping to read this article and come out of it mocking the University of Louisville. But honestly, I wouldn’t be shocked if this kind of ticket deal became a bigger trend across the country. Plus, there are endless ways to make fun of the Cards
