Kentucky, Tennessee recruiting battle is brewing for Cristian Conyer
Georgia is the heavy favorite in the SEC East, but the No. 2 spot is a clear battle. Both Kentucky and Tennessee believe they are in a position for that spot and the border schools have a bubbling rivalry.
One year after Kentucky trounced the Vols in Neyland Stadium, Tennessee traveled north and won a thriller at Kroger Field to give the Big Orange consecutive one-possession victories in Lexington. As both programs return star quarterbacks in 2021, debates will occur all offseason about which program is in better shape and who will be better on the field in 2022.
However, that rivalry is also showing up in recruiting. Bowling Green (Ky.) South Warren athlete Cristian Conyer is the next player that the two SEC schools will battle over.
The high three-star prospect helped lead his team to a state championship in 2021 and is now a wanted man in the class of 2023. His unofficial visits tell us that two schools are emerging as prime candidates in this recruitment.
To begin the month, Conyer headed to Rocky Top for an unofficial visit and took in a basketball game as Tennessee knocked off Arkansas in a thriller at Thompson-Boling Arena. Just a few weeks later, Conyer will be heading to Lexington to check in on spring practice at Kentucky this Saturday.

In the fall, Conyer also made a visit to Kentucky for a football weekend. What games was it? The thriller between the Volunteers and the Wildcats on Nov. 6.
After Tennessee made an impact, Kentucky will be looking to do the same this weekend as recruiting ace Vince Marrow is running point in this recruitment. Cristian Conyer is expected to play cornerback at the next level, and this is a huge position of need at Kentucky.
The rivalry is getting intense between the Big Blue and the Big Orange. The meeting between the long-time rivals on Oct. 29 could have major stakes. There are also stakes on the recruiting trail. Kentucky has had a ton of success recruiting Middle Tennessee landing players such as Tre’vonn Rybka, Barion Brown, and 2023 top-200 commit Shamar Porter. Now Tennessee is trying to return the favor by heading north in the recruitment of Conyer.
Don’t be surprised if a couple more recruiting battles pop up between the two programs in the class of 2023.
