Dalen Penson commits to Georgia Tech before official visit with Kentucky
Kentucky and Georgia Tech are starting to meet more frequently on the recruiting trail in the Peach State. A head-to-head battle for a top-200 cornerback prospect surprisingly became a commitment on Sunday night.
Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek cornerback Dalen Penson committed to Georgia Tech shortly after his official visit wrapped up with the ACC program. After landing top-500 tackle Darrin Strey, Kentucky saw two targets come off the board as Taren Hedrick committed to Ole Miss and Penson committed to the Yellow Jackets two weeks before his official visit to Lexington.
A two-time triple jump state champion, Dalen Penson is an outstanding track and field athlete who has posted some outstanding athletic testing data. Georgia, LSU, and Notre Dame all recently got the blue-chip recruit on campus for a camp workout. The Bulldogs worked out the cornerback prospect at receiver. However, no real movement came from those camps in his recruitment. This remained a Georgia Tech vs. Kentucky battle entering official visits in June. Brent Key‘s program did enough to close on Penson during his trip to Georgia Tech.

Kentucky’s focus will now shift to top-150 prospect Dawayne Galloway and high three-star recruit Andrew Purcell. Each is scheduled to take an official visit to Lexington in the next week and a half as Chris Collins looks to add another cornerback to the defense.
