The first big official visit weekend of the summer is officially in the books. Programs across the college football landscape are pushing for commitments. Another Kentucky target came off the board on Monday evening.

Rome (Ga.) High safety Darnell Collins has decided to stay close to home. The three-star prospect committed to Georgia Tech following his official visit to see Brent Key’s program.

The ACC program secured a big recruiting win before the 6-foot-3 wide receiver and safety could make planned official visit trips to Indiana (June 6-8), Kentucky (June 13-15), and NC State (June 20-22). Georgia Tech also beat out Kentucky for four-star cornerback Jaedyn Terry earlier in this cycle. The Yellow Jackets currently have seven commits in the 2026 high school cycle.

Over the last two recruiting cycles, Kentucky has seen safety targets commit to other schools in the summer only for the Cats to breakout the spatula around signing day. Cam Dooley committed to Missouri on July 1 before flipping to UK in December in the 2024 cycle. Dyllon Williams committed to Missouri on June 13 before he took an official visit to Kentucky. Yet, the Cats got the three-star prospect on campus in October for an official visit and quickly completed the flip. Could the same thing happen with Darnell Collins?

The calendar has turned to June and there is currently no momentum for the Wildcats on the trail. Kentucky only has one commitment in the class and zero on the defensive side of the football. That needs to change soon.
