Five-star guard Darryn Peterson took an official visit to Kentucky back in early March when former head coach John Calipari was still in charge. But despite Calipari now coaching at Arkansas, the new Kentucky staff will continue to recruit the elite high school junior.

Step one was officially re-offering Peterson, which new head coach Mark Pope and his staff did soon after taking over in Lexington. The next step could be to get the 6-foot-5 shooting guard back on campus for another visit to see the program from Pope’s perspective.

According to Peterson, another trip to the Bluegrass State is on the table.

“I recently got re-offered by coach Pope. I might go visit there again too,Peterson recently told On3’s Joe Tipton. “The same thing stands, they still want me. He’s watched some stuff and they want me and they’re interested too. I’m tuned into Kentucky this year, I didn’t really watch BYU too much.”

Once down to eight finalists, Peterson has elected to re-open his recruitment. Coaching changes across the college basketball world have altered the landscape. The Huntington Prep (WV) star wants to make sure he’s weighing all of the best options. Along with Kentucky, the likes of Kansas, North Carolina, Ohio State, Southern California, and, of course, Arkansas are all in the mix as of right now.

A visit to North Carolina is likely on the way. Now at Arkansas, Calipari will pick up right where he left off with Kentucky. Of note, the first 2025 prospect to receive an offer from Calipari when he was still at UK was Peterson. Kansas has long been viewed as a serious contender and that isn’t likely to change moving forward.

March’s visit to Kentucky was actually the first and only official so far for Peterson. He’s taken a handful of unofficials to Michigan and Ohio State, but this summer is when he’ll lock in and begin to travel across the country in search of his college home.

Peterson is considered the No. 3 overall prospect in the class of 2025, per the On3 Industry Ranking. There has been talk of a potential reclass to 2024, but as of now, the plan is to remain in 2025.
