What happens when you’re a one-and-done-level talent? You want to go to a school that produces one-and-dones. That’s the case for 2025 five-star Darryn Peterson, who is scheduling an official visit to Kentucky, the school he calls “One-and-Done U.”

The nation’s No. 3 overall recruit and No. 1 shooting guard hasn’t taken any officials quite yet, but he’s got several in mind. Kentucky is one, with Arkansas, Kansas, Ohio State and UNC joining the fold as likely trips.

“I’m planning those right now,” Peterson told On3’s Jamie Shaw. “Don’t have the exact dates but I’m going to start taking them in the new year.”

The Wildcats have been involved from the beginning, extending an offer back in August of 2022 — the first sophomore to ever receive a scholarship under John Calipari. That was a statement, because Peterson is a statement-level prospect.

What does the dynamic scoring guard think of Kentucky?

“They’re ‘One-and-Done U.’ Coach Cal is a legend, and he gets his guys ready for the league. And now, most of his guys in the league are max-contract guys. The NBA is the end goal of mine.”

Oh, and another thing. He models his game after two very familiar names.

“I watch a lot of Devin Booker and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander,” Peterson added. “Their pace and how they get to their shots. Both of them use the mid-range a lot, and I use the mid-range a lot too.”

He has high praise for the Razorbacks, Tar Heels, Jayhawks and Buckeyes, too. Arkansas has recent draft success, UNC is ‘Guard University,’ Kansas has a nice system and he can be a hometown hero at Ohio State.

But what will be the final determining factor in where he plays college basketball?

“I want to play for a coach that I know will push me,” Peterson told On3. “Put the ball in my hands to play the guard position and help me grow and prepare myself for the NBA. Having guys around me who can play will be big. I like to ring up assists too.”

Will that be Kentucky? John Calipari certainly hopes so.
