Kentucky OL transfer David Wohlabaugh Jr. commits to Syracuse
Another Kentucky football transfer has found a new Power Five home. Offensive tackle David Wohlabaugh Jr. is headed to the ACC for his final three years of eligibility.
Wohlabaugh will suit up for Syracuse in 2023 as he follows in his father’s footsteps.
Wohlabaugh’s father, Dave, played at Syracuse from 1992-94 before entering the 1995 NFL Draft. The fourth-round pick of the New England Patriots would spend nine seasons in the National Football League playing in one Super Bowl and spending time with the Patriots (1995-98), Cleveland Browns (1999-02), and St. Louis Rams (2003).

The younger Wohlabaugh was a class of 2021 recruit who picked Kentucky over Arizona State, Penn State, and West Virginia. The three-star recruit out of Cuyahoga Falls (Ohio) Walsh Jesuit took a redshirt year in 2021 before opening the season as a starter at left tackle in 2022. However, Wohlabaugh struggled in this new role and lost a spot in the rotation quickly after Kentucky kicked out guard Kenneth Horsey to left tackle in Week 2.
David Wohlabaugh Jr. went through a third full spring practice with Kentucky in 2022, but decided to enter the transfer portal on April 30 just a week after the Wildcats added USC transfer Courtland Ford to the roster. Wohlabaugh will be a redshirt sophomore in 2023. Kentucky currently has six scholarship tackles on the roster with a couple open scholarship spots remaining.
