Auburn just evened it up after a costly UK turnover with the lead turned into the game-tying two points going the other way in the bat of an eye. Now the Cats have the ball but not the edge on the scoreboard for the first time since the 16:45 mark in the second half. What will they do? First let's go back a week to when John Calipari said he needs someone, anyone, to step up and make a big shot. “I need some dagger throwers,” Calipari told his call-in show listeners on February 4. “Who will make the shot? We had shots against Alabama, we had shots against Georgia, we had shots (against Mizzou); we had shots to get us back (in the game), but the ones to be the dagger in them, we missed.” https://kentuckysportsradio.com/basketball-2/calipari-i-need-dagger-throwers/ “You cannot be afraid of missing... You’re playing to throw that dagger in,” he said. Now back to the present (or a couple hours ago, bear with me for this exercise). Tied up with the ball in the final minute, it's an opportunity for someone to answer Calipari's call and be the dagger thrower. And Davion Mintz threw the dagger. https://youtu.be/L2dDNNzvgWE?t=205 "That's a big play for this team and it's a big play for Davion," Calipari said of the shot. "You still remember the Vanderbilt game, we did a little hammer screen on the weak side and he knocks it down and ended the game. The one he made today, those are daggers. It takes a unique guy, and I'll tell you why: They can't be afraid to miss the shot. That's the one that will make it. If the guy's eyes are like this and his mouth's moving, probably afraid he's going to miss the shot, all route. Now, that guy ain't making it; oh, was it so close. Yeah, but the dude that's not afraid to miss, I'll deal with the miss, but I'm shooting this and this is a dagger. Proud of him."
