Davion Mintz waived by Washington Wizards
Davion Mintz will have to try his luck in the G League this season. On Wednesday, the former Kentucky Wildcat was waived by the Washington Wizards ahead of training camp.
Mintz went unselected in the 2022 NBA Draft after spending the last two seasons of his college career in Lexington. Since he signed with the Wizards first after the draft, the franchise controls his G League rights, meaning he could very well suit up for the Capital City Go-Go to begin the 2022-23 season.
While playing for the Wizards’ at the 2022 Summer League in Las Vegas, Mintz appeared in three games where he averaged 4.3 points in 10.4 minutes per game while shooting 44.4 percent from the field. During his two seasons at Kentucky (2020-22), the 6-foot-3 native of North Carolina averaged 9.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per contest. Mintz played 56 games for the ‘Cats, including 27 starts.

Kellan Grady makes Nuggets training camp roster
Mintz wasn’t the only undrafted Kentucky player who made a Summer League roster, but he was the only one who didn’t make it to the next stage. Former Wildcat sharpshooter Kellan Grady made the Denver Nuggets 2022-23 training camp roster, it was announced last week. Grady was picked up by Denver after his name wasn’t called in the 2022 NBA Draft and is now one of two Nuggets who earned a camp invite. He’ll join another one-time ‘Cat in point guard Jamal Murray who is set to return for his seventh season in the league after missing all of last season with an ACL injury.
Grady performed slightly better than Mintz during his Summer League run. The former Davidson star played in four games for the Nuggets in Las Vegas, averaging 5.5 points in 15.7 minutes per outing. During his lone season at Kentucky, Grady was an elite shooter, connecting on 41.5 percent of his outside shots on high volume while starting all 34 games he appeared in.
